Setup & Monitoring

Our infrastructure is based on a variety of systems: a Raspberry Pi, (4B) a Gigabyte BRIX (Ryzen5) and an Intel NUC (I7) The setup runs with 2 relays and 1 producing node. Systems are dedicated: a 4B Raspberry Pi’s with 4 cores and 8Gb memory as a backup, an Intel NUC with 4 hyperthreaded cores (behave like 8 cores) and 16GB memory and 2 Gigabyte BRIX’es with 6 cores and 16GB memory. With this set-up we are also able to run with sufficient performance. At high times, we measured a max throughput of transactions was about 2200 transactions/hr.

Of course we have taken the necessary security measures to protect our systems, such as limited port entrance, connecting to the systems via SSH as well as encrypted connections and hiding the producing node behind the relays. Also a contingency plan is available, in case the CORE system, our block producer, becomes offline. Therefore a Raspberry Pi is running 24/7 or we can adhoc provide a VPS. With an adjustment of DNS we can easily switch over. Our Grafana server runs from one of the the BRIX’es, enough power to handle it.

For Monitoring a setup with Prometheus and Grafana is choosen. The Grafana channel is also SSL encrypted. We can monitor the systems health, as well as the Cardano node statistics from everywhere, even on mobile devices. With the introduction of node version 1.29.0, the use of memory increased. For our current systems it is no problem, we can increase memory if needed.
